Controlling Cycle

The controlling cycle is the overcoming order Wood → Earth → Water → Fire → Metal → Wood, in which each element is said to restrain another. With the generating cycle, it forms the basic grammar of how the Five Elements act on each other. The system describes these as relationships of pressure and restraint within the chart, not as predictions.
